Appel d’art / A Breath of Fresh Art: open days in the Emmaus boarding houses
On 26 and 27 October, the residents of boarding houses (pensions de famille) run by "EMMAÜS Solidarité" become cultural mediators, presenting a selection of works from the City of Paris museums.
The boarding houses (pensions de famille) are places where people who have been on the streets can enjoy their own private accommodation.
For several weeks, reproductions of works from the collections of six Parisian museums (Musée Cernuschi, Musée Cognacq-Jay, Petit Palais, Maison de Balzac, Maison de Victor Hugo, Musée Zadkine) were displayed in seven of the boarding houses run by EMMAÜS Solidarité.
The objective was to make culture accessible to all and to work with the residents through workshops, discussions, visits and exchanges so that they, in turn, could present the works to the general public.
A project aiming to broaden access to culture.
Jointly run by EMMAÜS Solidarité and Paris Musées, "Appel d'Art / A Breath of Fresh Art " is a cultural project aiming to promote encounters between the EMMAÜS residents and the City of Paris museums, with as its theme: "solidarity, sharing and giving".
The aim is to show how fostering intercultural exchanges between a venue and its immediate environment contributes to a sense of community in a neighbourhood and to developing a kind of urban renewal in step with the changes taking place in the contemporary world.
