Les Années 50, la mode en France 1947-1957
The 1950s were a period of great success for Parisian haute couture. With Balenciaga, Fath, Balmain, Givency, Cardin, Chanel and more, the haute couture houses were so successful that after the war Paris was again established as the fashion capital of the world. This exhibition traces the evolution of the “New Look” silhouette launched by Christian Dior in February 1947, and developed until 1957, and then explores a 1950s innovation: ready-to-wear. It highlights the excitement of the fashion industry, which at the time was becoming one of France’s major economic sectors. The exhibition offers a fresh overview of fashion from this pivotal period that mixed haute couture and the beginnings of ready-to-wear.
