Albert Marquet
This exhibition is an adaptation of Albert Marquet, presented in Paris from 25 March to 21 August 2016.
This monographic exhibition devoted to Albert Marquet features more than 100 works (paintings and drawings). The chronological presentation of the exhibition allows visitors to gain a more complete understanding of the different aspects of the artist’s work, including his first works in Paris and in Arcueil alongside Matisse, those from the fauvism movement, his distinctive nudes which were a combination of academic studies and sensual encounters, and his obsession with landscapes, whose meditative and troubling aspects has made Marquet unique among 20th century painters.
He only had a few characteristics of the fauvism movement that he is associated with: simplification of forms but without deforming them, relative and moderate colour empowerment without the violent aspect, and the impression of rapid improvisation.
