Touring exhibition

Napoléon and Paris

Musée Canadien d'Histoire, Gatineau
An exhibition from the collections of the musée Carnavalet – Histoire de Paris, presented at the Canadian Museum of History in Ottawa-Gatineau from 16 June 2016 to 8 January 2017.

The exhibition enables to discover the complex relationship between a legendary man and one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Paris shaped Napoleon as much as Napoleon transformed Paris. Over 250 artifacts illustrate Napoleon’s career, the capital’s major political players and the everyday life of Parisians during that era. Personal objects and furniture evoke the Emperor’s meteoric rise and fall, provide a look at the luxury enjoyed by the Emperor and his inner circle, and place the savoir faire of Parisian artisans in the limelight. A wealth of paintings, models and architectural drawings testify to Napoleon’s ambitious dream of making Paris the capital of Europe.
