Picasso and Cubism: Masterpieces from the Musée d’Art Moderne
As part of its traveling exhibitions, the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris is presenting a selection of iconic Cubist works at Hangaram Art Museum in Séoul, ranging from artists reinterpretations of “primitivism” and Cézanne to the seminal experiments of Picasso and Braque, and then Gris and Léger. Cubism’s developments between 1911 and the postwar period are represented by a significant collection of the museum’s Salon Cubist works (by Gleizes, Metzinger, Lhote, etc.) and the large Orphic compositions of Robert and Sonia Delaunay. From the experiments of its founding to its rich legacy, it is therefore a Cubism embedded in the long course of its history that this exhibition enables us to understand.
