Six Centuries of Chinese Painting

Pinacoteca de São Paulo, Sao Paulo
An exhibition from the collections of the musée Cernuschi, presented at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo from 4 May to 4 August 2013.

This exhibition features more than 120 paintings by the greatest artists of Imperial China (1368–1911) and of the Republican period (1912–1949), along with Chinese painters who emigrated to the West after 1930 and chose to study in Paris. The exhibition offers an overview of the history of painting in China, the styles and traditions that have marked these six centuries, from the Ming Dynasty to the twentieth century, with the presentation of ten works by Zhang Daqian (1899–1983), considered to be the greatest Chinese artist of the twentieth century.
